Defying the norm to follow a passion and carve a career in an industry she'd always loved, Mel quickly progressed into manager positions in iconic Melbourne venues by the age of 21, including The Wayside Inn and Hilton Melbourne

A drive to balance work and travel resulted in a chance landing in Fitzroy Crossing, a small town in the Kimberley region of Western Australia about 400km inland from Broome. Her initial destination was closer to Broome, but a late cancellation meant that staff were no longer needed, so the desire to further explore led her down the Great Northern Highway to the revered Fitzroy River Lodge.

It was there that Mel's love for the hospitality industry and the incredible landscape of the Kimberley truly flourished, and it wasn't long before the red dirt started flowing through her veins, coming back to Melbourne in the off-season but always dreaming of returning to the desert.

After 5 years and further positions at the iconic Matso's Brewery and celebrated Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, a change was on the cards, and it was only natural that Mel returned to Melbourne, where she met her now husband Chris and his son Oskar within a matter of months. The memories of cooking with her Mum and Gran began to push through to the forefront, sparking a passion for home cooking, wholesome health and total wellness. Chris and Mel were married in October 2019 and, just as the pandemic hit harder in Australia, their son Jasper was born in June 2020.

Intertwined within that timeline, 'Wholesome Foodie' was created - a creative outlet that quickly became a flourishing business creating grazing tables for parties and events. When the pandemic hit, the pivot resulted in home-delivered grazing boxes and as doors started to reopen, the demand for her work grew exponentially, resulting in recognition as one of the country's best graze creators.

Fast forward to today, and Mel's overwhelming desire for self has resulted in her wanting to share her own plates - a collection of seasonal home-cooked meals made from scratch with the freshest ingredients, and frozen for your convenience - a true reflection of the name 'Wholesome Foodie'.
